Our Chosen Genre And Research

We chose the genre, RomCom Action because we looked into the top 10 genres on IMDB and we found that romance, comedy and action were all on the top 10 genre list. We believed that if we combined all of these genres together in one film we will be able to attract a larger audience. It would also combine two large audiences: male and female. This is because we have both a male and female protagonist. By doing this it will attract both male and female viewers.

I did some secondary research on the internet to try and find the average percentage of viewings by gender on the top 5 rated film genres. I found that males are more likely to watch a action films than females by a lot which averaged out on a ratio of 3:1. just doing an action on its own would mean that our films target audience would focus on male viewers. this is why we wanted to link it in with a romance so that we would also target female viewers. The odds of a male watching a romance over a female is 1:11. by including a romance it dramatically increases female views. we added comedy as well as both action and romance pair up with it and it would be relevant for both genders with a ratio of 2:1. In a typical Romance film there, the plot revolves around a young couple who are relatible to the target audience. The couple are typically shown as meant to be for each other. However somewhere in the narrative they are kept apart for many circumstances like being in different social groups, class or work. But, in the end they finally get together and usually ends with a happy ending.  A typical Rom always has a dilemma, which interferes with the couple getting together.
