The Impact Of Certification

The Impact Of Certification

Certification can greatly impact a film. when a film is in production, they create they make sure that they stick closely to the guidelines of their chosen certificate. however, when the BBFC review the film and it turns out that the film is not appropriate then the BBFC will have to up the certificate. The only way the producer of the film can lower the certificate is if they cut multiple scenes in which goes against their chosen certificate. This can become very costly as the scenes which have been cut may have cost the producers a lot of money to film and it is possible that doing this, it might interfere with the plot, making the film a disaster. or the producer might not do this and instead they might just stick with having a higher certificate. the negative to this is that they would loose a lot of money at the box office as well as in total as there target audience will be unable to watch the film as they would not be eligible to be able to watch the film.

If the certificate is borderline to the guide lines it can give the film negative feedback and reviews for parents and guardians of any child watching the film, this is because it might include material not relavent to the targeted audience. e.g. The Hunger Games. reports of 'The Hunger Games' were in many newspaper. the articles included psychologists, child health professionals and worried parents were discussing about the hypodermic needle theory.

From doing this research am I now going to consider sticking to my chosen certifications requirements in my own film opening. By doing this it will avoid my film's certificate being changed. if it does get changed it could cut off my target audience from watching the film. This would mean that my film would get less views and get less of a profit.
