Student Film Opening Detailed Analysis

Student Film Opening Detailed Analysis

Genre
The genre is of the film is clearly a drama. this is hinted by the twitter posts on the girls phone which are complaining about the new law which has been set. This shows key factors to a drama as it's a story of human struggles.

Narrative
The narrative of this story is about the government are setting a law in which humans are only allowed to interact using social media. the girl looks on twitter to see everyone response to the law. she turns on the TV and watches a news report on the law and with shock she drops her  phone and walks off. it then cuts to an image to a map of London where a counter of people online fills the screen. The whole title sequence is then reminded and brought to a black screen in which text appears reading '2 months later'.

Characters
The first character we see appears to be a government official of some sort. We do not seethe mans face at all, He is facing the PC in front of him, from the laptop which is recording him, his face is cut out, leaving us only seeing his mouth and the rest of his body. As well as this the scene is filmed in black and white. this lets out a mysterious sense about him and could connote that he is the antagonist of the film. the next character we see is a girl. from the first couple of camera angles we see her in, we cant see her face. this may be to bring the attention to her phone in which she is constantly using throughout her scenes. she has the most scene prevalence in the clip. this could suggest that she is the protagonist of the film. the last character we see in the film opening is the news reporter. as he has the least scene prevalence in the whole film opening, it is very unlucky that he has a big part to play in the film as a whole.

Atmosphere and music
The non-diegetic music in the film openings brings tension into the atmosphere. the music is very eerie and dominates the film opening. The ticking which runs along with the music gives the viewers a sense of danger. it could represent the ticking of a bomb or could connote something bad may happen soon. once the new report is over the music continues ,but the ticking has stopped. this may connote that the bomb was the law which has just been introduced. the ticking then appears again moments later but faster. This could imply that the situation will just get worse.
