What Makes A Good Student Film

What Makes A Good Student Film
  • The creators of the film shouldn't act in their own film opening- This is not advised as it is seen as unprofessional and the actors may not fit the actors.
  • A simple plot which is easy to follow- This is to make sure that your audience don't loose interest in your film.
  • It has to flow smoothly- It shouldn't include too much information. the introductions purpose is to introduce the film to the viewers.
  • Don't re-invent the wheel- The best student films are films which are inspired by previous
  • The Genre needs to be shown clearly in the introduction- this is ,because all good film openings show there genres in the first opening minutes, it also helps the audience understand the plot more.
  • Make sure that the titles are in the right order- Name of studio, Name of Production company, Name of the director, Names of Principal actors, Name of the film. This is a must as it shows your audience that this is a legit and professional film.
  • The film should have good quality audio- this is because the audience have high standards and don't expect to here the sound of wind in the mic or any other noise that isn't suppose to be included in the film
  • Make sure that the camera is stable- when your audience watch a film you want them to be engulf in a film, not fill dizzy and sick from watching a unstable film.  So  when filming you need to use a tripod or any other stabling equipment.
  • A good use of mise- this is important ,because you want your audience to believe in your story so if your film is about a smart business man who works on wall street, then make sure he wears a suit and not a track suit.
  • Make sure that your actors fit the role of the character they are suppose to portray- The film is only as good as its actors. If you want the audience to like your film you need to make sure that you have cast the right people. its no use making a film about a teen boy in high school and cast a 50 year old man who has to use a walking stick.

From doing this research I am now going to consider using all of the 10 points I have made for 'What makes a good student film'. This is ,because I want my film to be as successful as possible with as little mistakes as possible.
