What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing your media product.
The cameras we used were: The Cannon 55oD DSLR, a Sony MC2000E.

The strengths of the Cannon 55oD is that it is light weight
and is small. This meant that it was easy to manoeuvre with it in our hands
which allowed us to easy film our scenes and could quickly rerecord a scene
without any trouble. The weaknesses to this was that the lens had a manual
focus. This meant that we constantly had to make sure that the lens was
focussing on the object we wanted it to.
The strengths of the Sony MC2000E are: that it was a
professional cinematography camera which records in a high quality and it has
multiple settings such as automatic focus. This sped the filming process as it
focused the lens by itself. The weaknesses of the Sony MC2000E were: The camera
itself was heavy as well as awkwardly big. This made it hard to manoeuvre and
became time consuming when setting up to shoot. As well as this due to its
weight it wouldn’t be supported by a standard tripod. So for this we had to
improvise and use a table opposite where we were filming to stabilise the
camera. As well as this I had to use the shoulder mount which decreased the jerky effect however it was still present
We used equipment such as a tripod and boom mic to enhance
our film. The tripod allowed us to film steady shots quickly and eliminate the
possibility of getting a jerky effect. The boom mic enhanced the sound of our
film. By using the boom mic, it made it easier to hear our protagonists talk.
It also got rid of the majority of the background sound from customers in the
restaurant.
The editing software we used was Sony Vegas Pro 14. This was
because it is a professional editing software which is famous for its high
quality. The Positives of using Sony Vegas Pro 14 was that it has multiple
features available to use. The negatives to Sony Vegas Pro 14 is that if you
are learning from scratch it can appear to be very complicated, this meant that
we missed out on using some of its key features that could have improved our
film opening. We used Sony Vegas Pro 14. over Imovie which was provided at home as all of our editing was done at home instead of school. this meant that we were not limited to when to edit. This allowed us to start editing straight after filming.
We encountered many problems while filming. One of which was
one of our members not showing up for ever filming or editing. This game the
remaining group members, Chris and I, a high level of stress as we have to
improvise in some ways. An example of this was filming. As one of our actors
dropped out at within the hour of filming Chris volunteered to fill in for the
actor. This left me filing as well as holding the boom mic simultaneously in all
the scenes where you see the couple together and Hugo on his own. This was hard
work however it was necessary that we filmed on the day. Next time I believe to
improve we will firstly only allow people to join our group if they are
dedicated to the project. Secondly, make sure we have a third backup actor for
both characters and lastly find a tripod which is strong enough to support the
Sony MC2000E.
We were set weekly task which
we had to conduct. By doing the blog work it improved our knowledge on film media.
As blogger is an online software it allowed us to access the blog post wherever
we had an internet connection. This was helpful as it meant that we could
access our information whenever, wherever.
